Intertrigo is an inflammatory condition of skinfolds caused by skin-on-skin friction. Secondary infection with bacterial or fungal infection is common. Intertrigo is most commonly found in the groin, axillae, and inframammary folds. It also may affect antecubital fossae; umbilical, perineal, or interdigital areas; neck creases; and folds of the Bacterial skin infections are common presentations to both general practice and the emergency department. The optimal treatment for purulent infections such as boils and carbuncles is incision and drainage. Antibiotic therapy is not usually required. Most uncomplicated bacterial skin infections that require antibiotics need 5-10 days of antibiotic ointment (e.g. Fucidin, Bactroban, Polysporin) or Vaseline ointment 2-4 times per day till 10 days post- procedure. You should also cover the treated area if you will be in dirty environment or if there is a chance the wound will be injured or traumatized (e.g. at work, under clothing that is rubbing, playing sports, etc). Do this for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day until the toe improves. Dry your feet properly. Place cotton under your toenail and saturate the cotton with rubbing alcohol or iodine. Protect the toe with a bandage. Using a small amount of Polysporin or Fucidin Cream can be helpful. Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. Irritation where this drug was used. Fucidin H cream combines the powerful topical antibacterial action of fusidic acid with the anti-inflammatory and antipruritic actions of hydrocortisone. This results in a cream that can treat a wide variety of skin conditions.
