Git Gud is not simply advice, but a driving force for enjoying FROMSOFT games. One can for example exploit cheese, or endlessly summon help, or grind up their level to the point of making encounters trivial. But to remove difficulty and the need to "Git Gud" from these games in such a manner is to remove the primary thing that makes them special. This is my interpretation of "git gud" from the dev (s): "This isn't the only way to win, every weapons/build is slowly being tweaked to be just as viable so not one meta dominates them all, you will die more now cause you used that build as a crutch for your lack of discipline to learn the game and improve. Git Gud is mostly a meme and, personally speaking, it has a lot of merit even when used unironically. It is a direct response to the annoying element of the culture of people wanting to be spoon fed information and help, rather than trying to understand the game's mechanics themselves in *any* capacity. I never thought git gud was toxic, at least not in dark souls. It comes mostly from people asking how to beat bosses they're stuck on, and the secret is, there's no secret. If you see an overhead vertical swing, you'd better dodge sideways. If they have an aoe you'd better pay attention. Most bosses don't have a gimmick or an easy way to cheese. Sekiro definitely offers the best implementation of "git gud", you can't get through that game without gittin' gud.
