Visitors Center share a reception area on the first floor of the N.P.S. building. The Tredegar facilities are leased from the New Market (formerly Ethyl) Corporation which owns the site. In 2013, The American Civil War Museum was formed by a consolidation of the American Civil War Center and the Museum of the Confederacy. Immediately after the consolidation of the two institutions, we began plans to build our new facility which opened in May 2019 at Historic Tredegar. Entrance to Brown's Island is through the 5th Street entrance ONLY. Casa Del Barco FAST PASS: This allows the holder to enter through the 7th Street bridge and cut any line that may have formed at the main entrance. Incorporated in 1837, the Tredegar Iron Works of Richmond began as a small forge and rolling mill. The railroads and canal brought with them pig iron and raw materials that supplied the Iron Works. Under the supervision of Joseph R. Anderson, the Iron Works expanded. Anderson was able to secure contracts with Richmond, Virginia, was the political and industrial capitol of the Confederacy—at its center was the Tredegar Iron Works. This massive industrial complex was once the fourth-largest iron works in the nation and the leading producer of armaments and munitions for the Confederate States.
