Staoineag. Staoineag sits at the edge of a slightly tatty woodland in upper glen Nevis and is a favourite of mine since recce'ing the Ramsay Round a few years ago. The last time I was there, I found a story from Angus Montgomery of Kirkintilloch, who stayed there with his grandfather (and family) each summer. The stepping stones provide access across the Abhainn Rath, however this is often in spate making the stones impassable. This photograph, taken from just outside Staoineag bothy looks west to far distant Ben Nevis (left) and Aonach Beag. The river is the Abhainn Rath (avin ra). Note: the closest a non-native Gaelic speaker is likely to get to the pronunciation of the bothy name is something akin to 'Stoonyak'.
