I tend to play them rather socially awkward to anyone not gnomish or dwarvish (maybe Draenei could have mutual nerd speak). Gnomes basically have almost limitless potential. You can play a warrior, a dog tamer, a paladin, a tinkerer, anything really. Usually having a tiny bit of slightly zany fun with your character and not being overly grim about things also helps. They can basically be in any faction and have Level 40+ tauren warrior stands outside, but within the guards' aggro range. Our single level 40+ gnome rogue engages him, doesn't aggro guards. The warrior is a keyboard turner. Rogue runs through him (appears to be running through his legs) back and forth using back-stab and finally wins.
