The botanical material was taken from herbarium specimens, for species Bergia perennis F.Muell. (SP 174868) and Elatine gratioloides A.Cunn. (SP 169666), and field collections (Fig. 1a-b), Elatine lindbergii Rohrb. (BHCB 208077) and Elatine triandra Schkuhr (BHCB 208076). Elatinaceae is a family of flowering plants with ca 35 (to perhaps 50) species in two genera: [2] Elatine and Bergia. [3] The Elatine are mostly aquatic herbs, and the Bergia are sub shrubs to shrubs. [3] Elatine species are widely distributed throughout the world from temperate to tropical zones, with its greatest diversity found in temperate Bergia suffruticosa. First published in Denkschr. Bayer. Bot. Ges. Regensburg 3: 183 (1841) This species is accepted. The native range of this species is Sahara & Sahel to Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan to W. India.
