We are delighted to be bringing back this very popular event to the Llanfyllin Workhouse. This weekend takes place over two days in the ground of the historic Workhouse. On -site camping is available. You can expect the best UK bands such as The Wattingers, Hagley Wood Vampires, Mice and the Matchbox, Sonic 909, Jonathan Day Collective and many The Workhouse History Centre is open every day, 10.00 - 5.00. No charge for entry: donations most welcome. The displays and film can be viewed in Welsh or English. The workhouse was completed in 1840 and intended to house 250 paupers. Its plan is based on designs by the architect Sampson Kempthorne for the Poor Law Commissioners and published by them in 1835. Four wings radiate from a central, octagonal Master's House An 1848 report stated that the workhouse children made better progress with their education than free scholars at other local schools. The Most Haunted team, fronted by Yvette, found themselves in one such workhouse, a place of sadness and despair. It was constructed in 1837, and was completed and rapidly filling with paupers by 1840. The Workhouse is owned by the Llanfyllin Dolydd Building Preservation Trust (Charity No. 1091097). The Trust is a community group with membership open to all. Its elected Trustees manage the project as volunteers. The Trust bought Y Dolydd and six acres of land with the help of the Architectural Heritage Fund in 2004. Visiting. The Workhouse History Centre and Visitor Trail are open every day between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. There is no fixed charge but a donation is much appreciated.Sometimes a volunteer may be present, but your visit will be self-guided.
