Cherry blossom viewing is easy: simply enjoy the intensity of the many blossoms by looking at a single tree or a group of trees. From a distance, the trees appear as beautiful clouds, while the beauty of single blossoms can be enjoyed Hanami season in March and April is, for many Japanese, the best time of year. This is when the cherry blossom trees all over Japan come in to bloom for between seven and 10 days and people hold outdoor parties to view them. The name says it all - hana means "flower" and mi is "to look". Hanami is one of the most popular events of spring. The Origin of Hanami Festivals. In Japanese, " hana " means flower and " mi " means to watch or look at. So, the Hanami festival literally is a flower viewing festival. The "flowers" here are mostly Sakura (cherry blossoms) or Ume (apricot or plum) blossoms.
