Dromana was a Victorian seaside resort in the 1880s, but not much of the architecture from this time remains. Fortunately, the rainbow row of Bathing Boxes along the beach have been beautifully preserved. Before we hit the beach, we had lunch at Two Buoys, a tapas bar recommended to me by one of my readers, last time I wrote about the Dromana. Dromana is a bayside centre, nestled between Safety Beach and McCrae, and situated at the foot of Arthurs Seat; the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula. The name Dromana is of Irish origin and local folklore says that it came about from the influx of Irish gold prospectors in the late 1830s. A family owned and run artisanal distillery, Bass & Flinders was founded in 2009 and is located in Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula. Charlie's Auto Museum. Located at 185 Purves Road, Arthurs Seat, Charlie's Car Museum has a range of over 80 cars, motorcycles, bowsers, signs, model cars, micro cars and other automotive memorabilia housed in a 1940s-style garage. You can't visit the Dromana shoreline without exploring the pier that extends 200 m into the bay - built in 1959 to replace the original. In 2014 it was patched up with repairs to the concrete/deck in an effort to prolong the life of the structure. Park Victoria completed a review in 2021 with the aim of considering a replacement. Latrobe Reserve is a 13.5 hectare linear crown land reserve south west of the township of Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula. Encompassing the very steep coastal escarpment and it's short gullies, it runs parallel to the Port Philip Bay coast between Point Nepean Road and LaTrobe Parade.
