OAKLAND, Calif. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has delivered preliminary flood maps for unincorporated La Paz County in Arizona. The maps identify revised flood hazards along the Cinnabar Wash, Cinnabar Wash Split, Mineral City Wash, East Mineral City Wash and South Levee Channel. The FEMA Flood Map Service Center (MSC) is the official public source for flood hazard information produced in support of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Use the MSC to find your official flood map, access a range of other flood hazard products, and take advantage of tools for better understanding flood risk. Flood maps, known officially as Flood Insurance Rate Maps, show areas of high- and moderate- to low-flood risk. They are shown as a series of zones. Communities use the maps to set minimum building requirements for coastal areas and floodplains; lenders use them to determine flood insurance requirements. FEMA uses FIRMs to help determine what FEMA maintains and updates data through flood maps and risk assessments. Flood maps show how likely it is for an area to flood. Any place with a 1% chance or higher chance of experiencing a flood each year is considered to have a high risk.
