For Holiday, who had not worked in Boston for three-and-a-half years, it was a triumphant return. I believe Holiday first came to the Hub in August 1937 with Basie's band, singing at the Ritz Roof. In Boston's Back Bay, Storyville nightclub adds an ultramodern dance flair to leather booths, red walls, and a vintage wooden bar. This was actually the same location as the original Storyville in the 1950's which hosted some of the biggest names in jazz and was where Billie Holiday recorded a live album.
