Eritrea is a country in the Horn of Africa, with a diverse geography of highlands, lowlands, and coastlines. It shares borders with Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. The capital city is Asmara and the currency is the nakfa. The country's flag is red, white, and black with a star in the center. A two-and-a-half-year border war with Ethiopia that erupted in 1998 ended under UN auspices in December 2000. A subsequent 2007 Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC) demarcation was rejected by Ethiopia.
