25 Jul 2021. #1. I have a fairly new CX bike, with a SRAM Rival 1x Road (aka "GXP", sort of) crankset fitting into BSA 68 mm shell, that I use almost entirely for road. It has developed a dreaded creak. Internet sleuthing suggests the GXP brackets aren't great and my halfway-decent engineer mind agrees so I bought an aftermarket (not Hope While both Shimano HollowTech II and Sram GXP cranksets rely on longer, smaller diameter spindles and outboard bearing bottom brackets than the current crop of 29 & 30mm spindles, the similarities end there. Shimano HollowTech II cranksets use a steel spindle with a constant diameter of 24mm across the length of the spindle; as seen in the Reattach the crankset. To reassemble, grease the spindle and bolt threads. Insert the spindle through the bottom bracket, ensuring to correctly refit any spacers or washers. Replace the non-drive side arm, making sure it's 180 degrees from the drive side, and tighten the 8mm bolt into the spindle. Step 6. Featherweight champ.
