Usuman Dan Fodio was a political and Islamic religious leader during the early nineteenth century in the African city-state of Gobir, in modern-day Nigeria. He was a member of the Fulani people. Usman dan Fodio (1754-1817) Islamic preacher, reformer, scholar, and statesman, Usman dan Fodio was born on December 15, 1754 in the village of Maratta, in the Hausa city-state of Gobir, in what is today northern Nigeria. He was a descendant of the early Fulani settlers in Hausaland in the 15th century. He spent his youth in the devout pursuit Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), also known as UDUSOK, is a public research university located in the city of Sokoto, north western Part of Nigeria.It is one of the initial twelve universities founded in Nigeria by the federal government in 1975. Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto with a motto "ikraa" which means "Read". Dan Fodio, was born at Maratta, somewhere in Kwonni in Decem-ber 1754. Mùsâ Jakolo, his eleventh ancestor is said to have migrated with his people to the country of Kwonni from Futa Toro, in Senegal1. Early in Dan Fodio's life, his family moved to Degel2 and settled there.
