What is Kekkai Sensen? Kekkai Sensen (eng. Blood Blockade Battlefront) is a manga written by Yasuhiro Nightow of Trigun and Gungrave fame. There is no overarching plotline, 1.5 episodes of overall story progression is a major letdown. Each episode is concatenation of bizarre events mixed with introduction of Libra members, who did not get attention in the first season. Both are really good, but have distinct feel to them too. Season 2 is better in my opinion. Season 1 is good but season 2 def surpasses it. I feel like s1 is way better than s2. S1 had faster pacing and a thin plot needle to keep it all together from being episodic. Blood Blockade Battlefront (stupid-sounding as the name is,) or Kekkai Sensen has a little to offer everyone. It has tragedy, but not as tragic as Tokyo Ghoul so it still remains lighthearted in spite of some really awful things in it, and you won't get a sob story dragged onto you every two episodes as is becoming the trend in recent seasons. Background Kekkai Sensen's pilot serialization ran in Jump SQ from the February to April 2009 issues under the title Kekkai Sensen: Mafuugai Kessha (血界戦線 ―魔封街結社―), which was later collected in the first volume.
