An initial FID of USD 500 million for the project was reached in 2019 between the government and Mozambique Rovuma Venture. Rovuma LNG is Eni's second LNG development in Mozambique, following the 3.4-million-tonne-per-year Coral Sul FLNG vessel, which on its 2016 launch transformed the country into a global player in the LNG space. Mozambique Rovuma Venture submitted the development plan for the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project, which will comprise two processing trains each with a capacity of 7.6 million mt/year, to the government of Mozambique in July 2018. ExxonMobil will head the development of the LNG facilities, and Eni will lead the upstream work. The Rovuma LNG Project will produce, liquefy and market natural gas from three reservoirs of the Mamba complex located in the Area 4 block in the Offshore Rovuma Basin. It includes the construction of two natural gas liquefaction trains, with a total LNG nameplate capacity of 15.2 Mtpa (1), as well as associated onshore facilities.
