Located within the reserve is a Sanctuary of five ponds and weirs abundant with wildlife including platypus. There is an over 80% chance of seeing Tidbinbilla Peak Loop. Get to know this 9.2-mile loop trail near Tharwa, Australian Capital Territory. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are January through October. This is one of the ACT's best walks. Starting at Fishing Gap car park, we go over Fishing Gap, Mt Domain, Snowy Corner, Tidbinbilla Mountain, Tidbinbilla Peak, John's Peak and then down the Camelback firetrail to Mountain Creek carpark. This is a long walk with a significant climb, but with excellent views. Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is located on Tidbinbilla Reserve Road, Paddys River, about 40km from the centre of Canberra. Nestled within the Tidbinbilla Valley and surrounded by Namadgi National Park, both the drive and destination are experiences in themselves. Please note: A taxi is not recommended as, although they may drop you at the Visitor Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Less than an hour's drive from Canberra, this nature park is a key habitat for some of Australia's best-known animals: kangaroos, koalas and emus. A predator-protected sanctuary is your best chance to spot these critters in the wild. Directions: Drive to Point Hut Crossing and continue over the bridge along Point Hut Road until you come to the T-intersection. Turn right onto Tidbinbilla Road and follow the road for about eight kilometres and you will see the entrance road (on your left) to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
