Shkoder History Museum is an interesting museum located in Shkodër. If you have time, it makes for a nice addition to your Shkodër trip. The collection includes artefacts related with the history of the region. Founded in the 4th century B.C. by the Illyrians, Shkoder is one of the oldest cities in the country. Shkoder has been occupied several times throughout history: First by the Romans (168 B.C.), then Venetians (1396), and finally by the Ottomans (1479). Albania took control of this city during the 14th century, making it the feudal principality of the Balshaj. Rozafa Castle. Rozafa Castle one of the most popular places to visit in Shkoder. The medieval fortress is located about 10 minutes outside the city if you're driving. The castle offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the nearby Lake Shkodra and the Albanian Alps. Hiking Theth to Valbona. As I mentioned before, Shkoder is the perfect base for seeing parts of Northern Albania. From here we took a taxi to Theth to do the hike to Valbona which is really stunning and a fun adventure. The hike is an exhausting 7-8 hours but the views are definitely worth it. Discover Shkodër. With its ancient allure, cultural dynamism, and natural beauty, Shkodër rewards visitors eager to discover Albania's compelling north.
