Clerodendrum (Lamiaceae) is a taxon with more than 500 species distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world (Shrivastava and Patel 2007; Steane et al. 1999).A total of 23 species, 2 varieties of Clerodendrum, have been reported from India of which 18 species and 2 varieties are reported from the North Eastern Region (NER) of India (Deori et al. 2013; Srivastava and Clerodendrum thomsoniae Balf.f. Clerodendrum thomsoniae. First published in Gard. Chron. 1862: 70 (1862) This species is accepted. The native range of this species is W. Tropical Africa to Cameroon. It is a liana and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome. It is has environmental uses and as a medicine. Bleeding Heart Vine prefers moist, well-drained soil and high humidity. It is hardy to 45°F and may need protection in the winter. Personal observations of this plant have shown stem dieback in the winter, but it has grown back for multiple years without protection in Northern Bay County.
