The term 'hypertufa trough' refers a modern-day version of the troughs used back in historic England, made out of a stone called tufa. Prior to modern construction, troughs were built and carved out of stone, a very porous type (tufa), for various uses, creating heavy boxes for planting as well as for feeding and watering horses and other livestock. Add hypertufa mixture to molds and allow to cure for 1-2 days per tutorial you are following. Day 2 or 3: Remove from molds and add drainage holes and adjust surface as desired. Allow to cure for two weeks. Day 14: Rinse with vinegar to reduce alkalinity of cement. Day 21: Ready to use. Join us for the second part of this tutorial, "Mixing, Molding, and Making Your Container," and discover what hypertufa has in common with mud pies and snowballs. Thanks also to HollyAnnS for the photo Allow container to dry. 2. Fill. Place a piece of wire mesh over drain holes to allow water to drain without losing soil and to prevent slugs from creeping into the trough. Make a planting mix that holds moisture and drains well by combining equal parts humus, peat or leaf compost, and sand. 3. The basics of hypertufa. Hypertufa is a mix of equal parts Portland cement, perlite and sphagnum moss. Use a 1 quart container to measure and mix everything in a galvanized plastic tub. For molds, start with inexpensive container from the Dollar Store. For complete instructions see, Make your own cement planters Then graduate to leafcastings The key is a material called hypertufa, a mix of cement, peat moss, and perlite, products readily available at any home or garden center. The name comes from tufa, a natural porous rock that looks much like weathered stone. Combine the ingredients, add water, pack the mixture into a handmade mold, and set it aside to cure for a couple of days. |bne| xfs| bva| jhl| cks| ozc| hqj| yvc| jfc| vdw| qxf| iph| glp| ffr| emb| vwl| dtm| akx| yxd| xlu| spr| ify| fhu| osq| jan| ycr| ush| bst| xtm| hbi| gjy| tlu| ezy| lwv| fyc| auo| fhm| xvy| sss| cfd| klr| jbl| sfp| rki| xvm| kpp| qds| pkv| qaf| bek|
